    This course covers the safe and appropriate use of radiographic equipment including: • Functions and terminology of X-ray equipment • Image formation • Radiographic techniques • Radiation safety The didactic portion of the course will be available on our website. After passing the exam, students will receive hands-on, interactive instruction using radiographic equipment in the course’s clinical portion. Students will be required to perform X-rays on four different patients, the results of which must be approved and passed by the instructor. Upon successful completion of both the written and clinical portion of this course, the LADS will notify DBC and provide students with a certificate of completion. Students are required to take 4 Full Mouth x-rays. Bite wings and panoramic x-rays will not be accepted.

    California Dental Practice Act and Infection Control

    To familiarize attendees with the dental hygiene practice act and regulations which govern the practice of dentistry. This course will review dental practice act of dentists, dental assistants, and specialty categories, registered dental assistant, registered dental assistant with expanded functions, registered dental hygienist, and registered dental hygienist in alternative practice. Attendees will receive the knowledge to help them make correct legal and ethical decisions to solve problems that may arise while practicing dentistry. The participant will be able to complete the course with a clear knowledge of the regulatory requirements for minimum standards in Infection Control as required by regulation. That is why the Dental Board of California requires successful certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for all dentists and dental employees at least once every two years. The Los Angeles Dental Society CPR course follows the American Heart Association's guidelines and satisfies the BLS requirement by providing instruction in foreign-body airway obstruction; relief of choking for adults, children, and infants, use of automated external defibrillation with CPR.

    Coronal Polishing

    Implant Prosthetics in the Aesthetic Zone: Science, Protocol and Technique

    The restoration of implants in the aesthetic zone varies significantly from implant treatment in other areas. Successful outcomes require not just osseointegration of the implant fixture itself, but also creation of appropriate gingival architecture, selection and fabrication of an abutment / crown system that balances aesthetic and functional demands. Special attention will be given to provisional techniques, abutment / crown selection, impression techniques and gingival shaping. The techniques and materials demonstrated will balance efficient and practical techniques with clinical results and scientific evidence. Topics: •How to make provisional restorations that enhance the aesthetic outcome and maximize aesthetic predictability •How to select the appropriate abutment / crown in the aesthetic zone to maximize long term aesthetics and durability •Cement vs. Screw retained restorations: when, why and how •How to efficiently take implant impressions that maximize accuracy •How to make and deliver aesthetic provisionals with immediate implant placement •How to predictably manage and create soft tissue aesthetics around anterior implants
