Summary:
Management of acute odontogenic pain is accomplished through a clinical approach that successfully incorporates both opioid and non-opioid analgesics, Dental clinicians must understand the intended roles and limitations of these agents, as well as situations that may preclude their use, by reviewing patient medical histories and developing individualized patient pain management plans. This program will provide an overview of strategies and options available for effectively managing and controlling acute dental pain with opioid and non-opioid analgesics, while also mitigating associated risks. Special emphasis will be given to utilizing CURES to assist in identifying and managing vulnerable patients at risk for substance use disorders, as well as identifying possible "red-flag", or drug-seeking, behaviors.
